Our Doctors

Kenneth W. Knopf, D.M.D.

Kenneth W. KnopfDr. Kenneth W. Knopf graduated from the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry in 1980. He has been practicing dentistry here in Gainesville since his graduation. Dr. Knopf attended Cornell University in New York for his undergraduate. He also has his masters and PhD in Entomology. Dr. Knopf is a member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Alachua County Dental Association and the Central District Association.

Dr. Knopf and his wife, Debby, together have four children, Craig, Jessica, Kyle and Marissa. They also share seven grandchildren with 2 more on the way!

In his spare time, Dr. Knopf enjoys fishing, hunting and woodworking. He and Debby love to spend time traveling together.

Alecia Skipper McDonald, D.M.D.

Alecia Skipper McDonaldAlecia Skipper McDonald, D.M.D. is a graduate of the University of Florida, College of Dentistry. She also completed her undergraduate studies at UF with a major in microbiology. She is a huge GATOR fan and has fallen in love with the city of Gainesville so much so that she has decided to practice here in Gainesville.

Dr. McDonald is a member of the Alachua County Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association and the Central District Dental Association.

Dr. McDonald was born in Pensacola, Florida, the cradle of aviation. She comes from a military family and relocated to a new adventure every five years, living in many areas of the country as well as overseas in the Philippines. Of course, traveling has become her passion and she is always planning for the next holiday or family vacation.

In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, and spending time with her husband, Brady and their children, Chesley, Elle, Jack and Skip.

Richard G. Spooner, D.M.D.

Richard G. SpoonerDr. Spooner was born in Colorado, but raised in Citrus County Florida. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida in Nutritional Science. He went on to graduate from the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry.

Dr. Spooner is a member of the American Dental Association and the Florida Dental Association.

In his spare time he enjoys fishing and spending time with his wife and children.

Valentina Ayala, D.M.D.

Valentina Ayala, D.M.D. Dr. Ayala was born in California, USA but raised in Venezuela. She attended dental school in Caracas, Venezuela where she graduated as a Dentist for the first time. Later that year, the political situation in Venezuela became unstable and Dr. Ayala decided to move to the United States to improve her English, in hopes that the situation would eventually get better for her to move back. However, she met her husband, and then she knew she was not going back to Venezuela. She worked as a dental assistant, and later as a dental hygienist until she was accepted into the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry.

She completed the Comprehensive Dentistry program, a Certificate in Public Health at the University of Florida, and she committed to the 4 year DMD program at the University of Florida where she obtained her second dental degree.

Dr. Ayala and her husband Andres have two beautiful daughters, and they have made Gainesville their home. They enjoy camping, traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Ayala is a member of the American Dental Association, The Florida Dental Association, and the Alachua County Dental Association.

Registered Dental Hygienist

TammyTammy is one of our dental hygienists. She is very personable and makes all patients feel at home. Tammy grew up in High Springs, and is currently living in Alachua. While in her senior year of high school she began her dental hygiene education. She graduated in 1992 with her Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Santa Fe Community College. Tammy has been a part of our team since 1995.

Tammy is married to Scotty and they have a son, Zach, and a daughter, Savannah.

Tammy’s hobbies include scrap-booking, boating, and spending quality time with her family.


Registered Dental Hygienist

KellyKelly’s dental experience began in 1995 when she worked as one of our sterilization assistants. It was during that time that she became motivated to pursue a dental hygiene career. She graduated in 1999 with honors from Santa Fe Community College with an Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. She rejoined our team in December of 1999 as a full time hygienist.

Kelly loves spending time with her family. She and her husband, Kevin were raised in Gainesville. They have two very energetic kids, Megan and Jacob who keep them laughing. They love to play with their big brother, Ruger, their blonde Labrador.

Registered Dental Hygienist

TraciTraci began her dental experience in 1995 as a dental assistant. She assisted for 5 years before graduating from Santa Fe College in 2000 with an AS degree in Dental Hygiene. She joined our team in 1998 and worked with us until 2008 when she decided to stay home with her children for a few years. She rejoined our family in 2012. She wears many hats in our office.

In her spare time Traci enjoys spending time with her husband, Chad and their five children, Kaitlyn, Kyler, Emily, Blake and Sam. They are very active in their church and enjoy camping trips when the kids activities don’t have them busy. Traci loves time at the beach and tries to get their every chance she can!

JennaJenna is one of our many dental hygienists. She graduated from SFCC in 2001 and was a dental assistant before entering the dental hygiene program.

Jenna loves spending time with (and chasing after) her Son, Ethan, and three mini-dachshunds (Daisy, Lily, and Audie). Jenna enjoys the outdoors and in her spare time heads to the gym for an intense workout.

Jenna loves working with children as well as adults trying to achieve exceptional dental health and in building a long lasting friendship with our patients.


Registered Dental Hygienist

AddieAddie has been working in the dental field since she was 15 years old. She began her career as a dental assistant and then completed the Dental Hygiene Program at SFCC in 2006. Addie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education from the University of Florida.

Addie was born and raised in Bradenton, Florida and has been living in Gainesville since 2002. She enjoys playing the violin, exercising and spending time with her friends, family and pets.

Addie enjoys seeing patients of all ages and helps to make their dental visits as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

WhitneyWhitney is on of our many dental hygienists. She graduated in May of 2007 from Santa Fe College with an associate in arts degree in Dental Hygiene and has been with us ever since! She has great, long lasting relationships with all of her patients.

Whitney is a life long resident of Lake City where she lives with her husband, Dustin and their two kids, Peyton and Hudson. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Registered Dental Hygienist

MarandaMaranda is one of our many dental hygienists. She graduated from Santa Fe Community college with an Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. She is also currently working on her Bachelors of Dental hygiene to better treat her patients with the latest advancements and treatments of periodontology. On her days off from Millhopper Family Dentistry she also teaches at Santa Fe College as an adjunct clinical dental hygiene professor. Before her days as a hygienist she worked at Millhopper Family Dentistry as a dental assistant.

Maranda was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. In her spare time she likes to read literature about the dental field to stay on top of the newest research and developments for her patients. Maranda and her husband, James are true animal lovers and currently have three dogs that they have adopted from local animal shelters.

SusanSusan is one of our many dental hygienists. She graduated from the Dental Hygiene program at Santa Fe College. She also graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science in Travel and Tourism Management in 2005. She spends her days off from our office teaching Dental Hygiene at Santa Fe College.

Susan was raised here in Gainesville. She and her husband Jon love spending time with her son, Billy and their daughter, Ella.

NatalieNatalie has truly been a part of the Millhopper “Family” for most of her life! At the age of three, Natalie had her first Dental visit here and has been coming to the office ever since. She was a sterilization assistant for a few years while she finished assisting school, worked as a dental assistant and graduated from hygiene school in 2013. She currently is one of our full time hygienists and we are so happy to have her!

Natalie was raised in Gainesville and loves that she gets to raise her family here. She and her husband Mike have two boys, Reid and Brady. They love spending time outside, watching the Gators play, and spending time with their dog, Bradley.

Certified Dental Assistant

TamiTami is one of our expanded functions dental assistants. One of Tami’s biggest responsibilities is being our head assistant. She is our implant coordinator and goes beyond the call of duty wherever necessary. She has been employed since 1998. Tami is a sincere, polite, and friendly person who prides herself on making your appointment as soothing as possible.

Tami attended Jacksonville dental assisting school and has been working as an assistant since 1991. She also attended the University of Florida where she received her Expanded Duties Certification.
Tami is from Keystone Heights, Florida and is the youngest of five children in her family. She is married and has a daughter, Alexis.

Spending time with her husband and daughter consume most of Tami’s free time, along with waterskiing with her husband and friends.


Expanded Functions Orthodontic Assistant

KimberlyKim takes pride in the great dental assistant that she is! She has been in the dental field with a local dental office since 1999. She joined our practice in 2012. She is great addition to our office family with the skills she obtained from working in an orthodontic office. She loves working with people and helping them make the best decisions for all their dental needs.

Kim was born and raised just outside of the Gainesville area. She enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Chad and their children, Tysha, Ashlyn, Keatan and Kierstan. They enjoy camping, spending time in the pool and playing with the animals. She also enjoys going on medical/dental mission trips to Brazil where she gets to practice dentistry on the side of the Amazon River. She enjoys helping people, making everyone smile and loves being a part of the Millhopper family team!


Certified Dental Assistant

SteveSteve is one of Millhopper Family Dentistry’s dental assistants. He enjoys assisting patients with dental anxiety and answering questions to ensure our patients understand their dental procedures.

Steve graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s in Entomology and Nematology. After discovering his passion for dentistry he attended the Dental Assisting program at Santa Fe. Steve now loves being in the dental field and has aspirations to one day become a dentist himself.

ChristinaChristina began her dental experience in 2012 when she went to Santa Fe college and obtained her associates degree in dental assisting. She has been working in our office ever since. She was also just accepted into the Dental Hygiene program at Santa Fe college. We are excited to see what her future holds!

In her spare time, Christina enjoys spending time with her husband, David and their two kids Jensen and Sawyer. She loves watching her son Jensen play baseball and enjoys watching her daughter, Sawyer dance around and attempt to take the world by storm!

Certified Dental Assistant

AlyssaAlyssa began her experience in our office at 19 years old working both as a sterilization assistant and an administrative assistant. She attended the dental assisting program at Santa Fe College and is currently working as a Certified Dental Assistant. She has been assisting in our office since 2012 and was just accepted into the Santa Fe Dental Hygiene Bridge program.

Alyssa was born and raised in the Gainesville area. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, especially her two adorable nephews, Lawson and Hudson. She also is a Gator sports fanatic and thoroughly enjoys college football season with her family and friends.

CraylondaCraylonda is one of our expanded functions dental assistants. She has been an assistant since 2012. Cray loves to make our patients feel welcome and comfortable during their dental treatment. Cray received her expanded duties certification and radiology license from Ultimate Medical Academy in Tampa. Cray is one of our most organized employees and takes pride in making sure everything is very organized in the office.

Cray was born and raised in the Tampa area and moved to Gainesville in 2016. She enjoys spending time with her family as well as her two fur babies Izzy and Bella. She loves to travel and see new things.

Certified Dental Assistant

Zoe has been with the Millhopper Family team since December of 2017. She earned her dental assistant certificate from Santa Fe College in July of 2016 as well as an Associate of Arts degree in Biological Sciences in April of 2017. She hopes to continue her education to acquire her bachelor’s degree and eventually pursue dental school.

Zoe is originally from Fort Lauderdale and moved to Gainesville in 2014. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering in the community, playing with her dog Kizzy and spending time with her family.

LisaLisa grew up in Middleburg and has moved to Gainesville to work as a dental assistant and further her education in the dental field. In 2014 she graduated from the Dental Assisting program at Florida State College in Jacksonville with each of the Dental Assisting Expanded Duties and her Radiology License.

At Millhopper Family Dentistry she is cross-trained in Assisting and Sterilization.
She enjoys spending her spare time with her sister, Tina, who inspired her to join the dental community. Lisa’s hobbies include competitive video-gaming and participating in Florida’s many comic book conventions.

Sterilization Assistant

Brian has been with our office sine the summer of 2015. He works tirelessly to keep the sterilization department up and running smoothly. We love having him as a part of our team!

Brian recently graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Plant Genetics. He is very passionate about dentistry and is currently pursuing acceptance into Dental school at the University of Florida. Brian enjoys all outdoor activities, especially spending time with his chocolate lab, Belle.


Sterilization Assistant

Kyle joined our Millhopper family in December 2017. He is one of the hardest working employees we have in the office and always does it with a smile and positive attitude no matter what may be going on in his life! He works very hard to keep the office sterilized and functioning efficiently throughout the day! We are so happy to have him as a part of our family!

Kyle was born and raised in Bradford county, where he currently lives with his lovely wife, Jessica. In his spare time, he enjoys farming, spending time with family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews. Kyle and Jessica are expecting their first child, Bruce in January 2018!

Administrative Assistant

jessicaJessica is our office administrator. She has been at Millhopper Family Dentistry since 2002. Jessica is always smiling and doing her best to make the office run smoothly.

Jessica has lived in the area all her life. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics.

When Jessica is not working she enjoys spending time with her loving husband, Bob and their adorable baby boy, Maddix. Jessica and Bob have a sweet hound dog named Sugar.

AmandaAmanda is one of our administrative assistants. She has been with our practice since 2005. Amanda has lived in Gainesville most of her life and attended Santa Fe Community College.

Outside the office Amanda loves spending time with her family. She and her husband, Frank, have 2 daughters, Anna and Ally, who are the light of their lives. Amanda enjoys movies with her husband, spending time with her kids, and going on family vacations.

Sharon Sharon is one of many smiling faces to greet you when visiting Millhopper Family Dentistry. Sharon became part of our Administrative team in April 2007. She is happy to help you with any questions you may have regarding new patient appointments, insurance and scheduling dental procedures.

Sharon enjoys reading, nature, and taking day trips around the state. She is keen on family dinners featuring spicy dishes, shared with her husband, Keith, their two daughters, and their husbands.

TimothyTimothy was born in Gainesville, and then grew up in Alachua.

He started working with MFD in 2007, and is planning to go to SFCC in January to further his education.

In his spare time he enjoys playing guitar and dancing.

Erica Erica is one of our administrative assistants. She started at Millhopper Family Dentistry in 2007. She is always happy to help with any scheduling or insurance questions.

Erica enjoys spending time with her husband, Kyle, and their two children, Kyleigh and Waylon. They are involved in their church and their favorite vacation spot is the beach! Erica also enjoys going out on the boat, shopping, and spending time with her friends.

Kelly Kelly joined our Millhopper family in March of 2018. She has been a great addition to our front office staff. We are so thankful for her sweet smile and caring personality with our patients.

In her spare time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband, Chad and their three children, Kendall, Kameron and Travis. They are very involved in their church activities and enjoy spending time on the boat, riding ATV’s and horseback riding.
